Faith is useless unless it is in that which is known to be true

The book of Matthew is very fragmented,

I think that claim requires support as well as clarification as to what you mean by it. I mean is it more fragmented than the other synoptic Gospels? Is it more fragmented than any other typical account of events?

and is in fact a book about Jews.

Yes all the major players mentioned in the book are Jews but it contains truth for all men.

Jesus' own brother was indeed a Jew: since the tale of his brother was contained within this book, it is now fragmented.

What part of Matthew do you think refers to a brethern of Jesus? The story of his cousin John the Baptist?

What is a greater crime: a lack of belief, or the destruction of knowledge?

I guess that depends on what the faith is in. A very strong faith is of no value at all if it is faith in something that is not true. Even faith in Christ is of no value if it is in things which are not truly representative of Christ and His teachings. For instance faith in a another Gospel than the true one is a faith I would gladly lose instead of losing knowledge of the true Gospel.
