The Church, the Word and the Power...

Churches today confess that they are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, and according to the Word of God.
But it is that same word that puts the veritable lie to their assertions. Many times, those members of error ridden churches are utterly ignorant of the Word of God, and versed only in what their denomination teaches and practices. Oftentimes, the word heard preached from pulpits and in bible classes are three, four and five generations removed from what the bible actually says, being in truth, little more than word of mouth myth, handed down from generation to generation, without anyone ever actually reading the Word of God so avidly and carefully that the ‘truth’ will finally out.

And if you’re counting on Sunday School literature being any better, then be advised that most such material is written for an average student age of 12 years. There is very little, perhaps no, growth in truth or life to be had there.

It is summed thus…in the Words of Jesus, “Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.” Matt. 22:29.

Two agencies, two separate entities the church has willfully divorced. The Word of God, and the power (the Holy Spirit) of God.
As to the Holy Spirit, Jesus tells us very specifically how to know that He is in us, both individually and corporately. He tells us in John 4:14, that,

“But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life”.

And again, in John 7:38, with,

“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water”.
In our churches, is there actual movement of the Holy Spirit? Are rivers of living water and well springs of water rushing forth in our meetings? In our lives? In our churches? If they were, how could the buildings contain it? How could there be empty pews and falling membership?

Peter speaks of Paul, and how ignorance fails us,

(“As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are UNLEARNED and UNSTABLE wrest, as they do also THE OTHER SCRIPTURES, unto their own destruction” 2 Peter 3:16),

It seems our churches are sincerely casting about in darkness for truth, never realizing it is everywhere. For the Word of God is available as never before in history. The Word of God is (should be) in the church as the Holy Spirit, in us as the Holy Spirit, on our 'devices' as the written word, and in our Bibles, going back hundreds of years.

Without understanding the importance of these two things, The Power of God and the Word of God, how could it be marvelous in our eyes that ignorance is rampant, especially when accompanied by an ‘arrogance of ignorance’ that says, “I don’t care what the bible says, I believe this, that and the other...for that is how so and so teaches and preaches it”?

God forgive us for ignorance and divorcing ourselves from the Holy Spirit!

Ask yourself this simple question…”If my church hands out a printed program of the Sunday worship...where, how, when can the Holy Spirit move?” The same can be said for those churches where tradition is so strong, that no deviation from the usual norm of worship can be tolerated…what would happen, in your church, if someone stood up and gave a message from the Holy Spirit, IN TONGUES??? Right...

There will be one day, a return to the Holy Spirit, and to the Word of God…but I am so afraid that it will come only as the result of serious affliction or tribulation, where only these two eternal and immutable agencies, the Word and Power of God will be sufficient to deliver the church.

I am and remain sincerely yours in Jesus Christ,
