What is the 'Rule of Faith'?

tomgroeneman's picture

How do you understand the rule of faith in light of the Apostolic teaching, the Scriptures, the Creeds and Church history? Is it similar to the idea of the deposit of faith that some speak of? How does your understanding of the rule of faith effect the way you interpret Scripture? The reason I am asking is because I am trying to determine whether or not Tradition is a valid means of receiving the revelation of God. At what point does an individual rely on the teaching of the Church to formulate doctrine and as guidance on questions of faith and morals? I am open to all arguments for or against. It seems to me that just me and my Bible are limited in providing the sufficient illumination necessary to survive in this world. I know Protestant theology teaches that Scripture alone is sufficient for all that the believer needs but I am thinking there is more available in the plan of God. As a Catholic, I am taught that the Magisterium, the teaching office of the Church, works together with Holy Scripture to minister the life of God. Before the Canon was completed, the Early Church relied on the teachings of the Apostles (the rule of faith?) and the following generations of Church leaders to guide the people of God until the Canon was finalized. How much weight do the Early Church Fathers carry in our understanding of the truths of the Gospel? What say you?

G-d's Ruach ha Kodesh Is what Directs my life to The Truth

Brother Tom,

The world is full of Mystery, and trying to find The Truth which comes from G-d's Word, and knowing that will require first, a Circumcised heart...

No Theology of Man will ever span the gulf that is found between where G-d's dwelling Place is located, and the heart of a man's sin and rebellion in his life is, which separates G-d from mankind. G-d's dwelling Place Is in The Heaven of the heavens... We can not go to Heaven except through The Blood of G-d's Perfect Lamb... And The Lamb is Yeshua/Jesus, G-d's only Begotten Son... Jesus IS our Passover Lamb, His Blood Covers our sin and our Separation from The Father...

But G-d sent His Only Begotten Son into The World to show us how to Love one another by
G-d's Grace, which is always there for us and never IS G-d's Grace against us. G-d's Grace on our lives Enables our soul and heart to see our sin and rebellion for G-d, The Father of Light... We are able to say Yes to G-d's Calling us to be apart of His Kingdom's Mission unto all Nations, so that we may also find G-d's Marvelous Light unto The Nations, which IS Jesus Blood and His Righteousness...

G-d willingly sent His only Begotten Son into The World, so that we who were G-d's Created Creatures may also find The Light of G-d's Love and Blessing on our Eternal Soul...

The Bible IS The Word of G-d, and it is the only source for The Truth that all of Creation is desiring to know...

What man may know in not what G-d knows, because we have limits to what we can do, and G-d IS unlimited in what He can do for us...

This is why our Theology is limited in what we can do... But when we listen to G-d's Great Spirit Speak to us in our heart and soul, then we are not limited in what we can learn or are we able to do from having The Source of all understanding, living with our hearts, as Christian Believers in The Faith which come down from The Father of Light...

It is not about a list of numbered points, but it IS about G-d's Love, which fills us up with all of G-d's Understanding of Mercy and Grace, and we have G-d's Love for one another inside of every Believer... invite the Source of all Blessings come into your heart and Change you outlook on life forever.

It IS all about The Blood of Jesus... His Blood was freely given so that our requirement of deat is now covered with is what G-d Sees of our sins, the payment for sin is coveredgone for our lives

Blessing to you brother Tom and Shalom, Lee...
