BTW some of the appeal was from its "forbidden" nature. Bunyan was an unlicensed preacher in a day when that was a criminal offense- offending God and Caesar together, they believed. I think he wrote much of Progress in prison.
The salvation of Pilgrim was through God's undeserved kindness vice church laws, which view was 'an abomination unto the Lord' ... or unto the tithe collectors. :-) Unless etc. all scriptures are NWT
