In the post above I mentioned "OPs" where OP is understood to mean Opening Post. Let the record show that Tom did not initiate this thread nor is it known if the original poster is Catholic.
However, this thread did expand to its current discussion because of a claim put forth by Tom in the post found here ==> http://www.ccel.org/node/20562#comment-53595
Where he wrote, "...but the RCC is the only Church where the records and writings of the Early Church Fathers demonstrate this physical line of succession from the twelve to the bishops and clergy by the laying on of hands. Peter and Paul were both in Rome around the same time and would have laid hands on the deacons and bishops they appointed for service in the Church at Rome. This practice continues throughout the centuries and spreads from Rome to all parts of the world without interruption connecting the clergy to the original Church at Jerusalem. This is the organic unity of the body of Christ and from which the Church derives her legitimate spiritual authority." [emphasis mine]
It is this last sentence about the legitimate spiritual authority of the RCC which is antagonistic and is viewed as an attack on the Protestant faith. If Tom wishes to speak of what the Church claims is her legitimate spiritual authority then who could dispute his words, for she merely claims it for herself. But here, as he exalts his faith, he abases all other faiths in one fell swoop and has offended many.
