A School of Love and Prayer

Star

In my second year of college, I decided to attend church off-campus with some friends. Our weekly drive downtown took us past run-down storefronts, and one of them in particular caught my attention. The sign over the top of one of the stores announced it as a school, but it looked to me like it could be a church. "School of Love and Prayer" read the large white letters of the hand-painted sign. As a double major in Philosophy and Greek, I snickered at the school. I wondered aloud if most people majored in love or in prayer, or if perhaps there were some double majors.

With Christ in the School of Prayer

I'm reminded of Andrew Murray's book, "With Christ in the School of Prayer." He writes in portions designed for daily devotional consumption but fully explores his subjects over the long run. SO GOOD for both the novice or old veteran Christian!

My Lord, thank you for coming

My Lord, thank you for coming to earth
To save us.
To save every child,
To save every mother,
To save every father,
To save the whole world.

We continue to have chapel [EDITED]

We continue to have chapel mid-morning on Wednesday and Friday too. Those who lead characteristically gather up concerns of the seminary community and present them in prayer— thanks for a new child, concern for a sick professor, comfort for a grieving friend— prayers for each other and for those across the world. On Mondays prayer groups.

Prayer

Hello John, Philemon 7 - your article refreshed my heart in Christ, thank you.

I think it was William Scourgal who said something like, "Prayer is the life of God in the soul of man". After many years with the League of Prayer I tend now to major on the being and relational aspects of prayer, rather then it being something we Christians "Do" ie. we are pray-ers of Jesus before we "Do" prays. [a useful corrective for us protestant-Evangelical activists who often apply the same spirit to our intercessions whilst downsizing adoration, worship, praise, penance, etc. Oh for the extensive gift of being a more Christlike catholic, charasmatic, conservative evangelical Christians - JOY in JESUS.

Also I warm to the Desert Fathers definition of a theologian being, "A man of prayer" as King David was - in God's wonderful grace Margaret & I are praying that it will be so with you and I. That increasingly we prove to be, "Living letters...pray-ers that all men may read and benefit from in the revelation of our Beloved God - Jesus Christ.

Yours in Him,
