Discussing the word "ALL" in 2 Cor. 5:14

2 Cor. 5 (NIV)

14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.
15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

I want to focus on the word "ALL" in this passage. What is the scope of the word "ALL?"

"...One died for all, and therefore all died."

Is it that everyone died with Christ on the cross and some just don't know it or won't believe it?

What is The Meaning of The Word "All"

Brother Jeff,

I do not think you yet have the correct understanding. We are already dead in our trespasses and in our sins against G-d!

We are Reconciled to G-d because of Messiah's Love which "compels" us, is the main topic that Paul is speaking about. It is more about the English word "Compels", than the "all" of us.

What we must understand is when we trust G-d for His Provision and Believe Him for giving us Spiritual Life Everlasting through His Perfect Lamb, Yeshua/Jesus The Christ/The Messiah, G-d then brings "A Change in our direction" in life. This is the most important event in our life when we put our trust in G-d and His Provision for our Salvation.

Let us first understand what we are trying to address and communicate with the meaning of the English word "all".

From The English Dictionary: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/all

The meaning of The English word; All, awl, adjective,
1. the whole of (used in referring to quantity, extent, or duration): all the cake; all the way; all year. 2. the whole number of (used in referring to individuals or particulars, taken collectively): all students. 3. the greatest possible (used in referring to quality or degree): with all due respect; with all speed. 4. every: all kinds; all sorts. 5. any; any whatever: beyond all doubt. 6. nothing but; only: The coat is all wool. 7. dominated by or as if by the conspicuous possession or use of a particular feature: The colt was all legs. They were all ears, listening attentively to everything she said. 8. Chiefly Pennsylvania German. all gone; consumed; finished: The pie is all.

All as a pronoun,
9. the whole quantity or amount: He ate all of the peanuts. All are gone. 10. the whole number; every one: all of us. 11. everything: Is that all you want to say? All is lost.

Now we have some idea of what "all" is to represent as an English word. The word all is referring to the quantity of people being spoken about. So when we insert this meaning of all, we get a better picture of what Paul is talking about in 2 Corinthians 5:14, The Complete Jewish Bible, Tanakh and B'rit Hadashah, Jewish New Testament Publications, Inc. ISBN 13 978-965-359-019-9

V14 For The Messiah's love has hold of us, because we are convinced that one man died on behalf of all mankind (which implies that all mankind was already dead),

V15 and that he died on behalf of all in order that those who live should not live any longer for themselves but for the One who on their behalf died and was raised.

What we see as we read this passage is that we are all dead in our trespasses and in our sins. Yeshua/Jesus died a death once for all mankind as a payment for our sin and our death. Now we have been set free from Death and The Grave.

We are now alive in The Christ/The Messiah because of His Love in giving His Life/Body and His Blood in Death for us, as a Propitiation/Attonement from our sin and death. Our Redemption has been made complete in Him. New Life is now part of today if we willingly receive this Free Gift of Divine Love and turn from our sin in Rebellion from G-d!

I hope I have given you some help in understanding Paul's address.
