Biography

Geerhardus Johannes Vos was born in the Netherlands in 1862. Vos attended school in the Netherlands as his father was the pastor of the Dutch version of the Christian Reformed Church. Vos’s father took a call to pastor a CRC in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Geerhardus flourished as a scholar, mastering more than six languages, attending several universities (including Calvin Theological Seminary) as well as being a lecturer and professor. He wrote a five volume work titled Reformed Dogmatics, which was in recent years translated from the original Dutch to English. He published sermons, articles, and nearly a dozen books. Vos died in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on August 13, 1949. He and his wife are buried in Roaring Branch, Pennsylvania.
