John Owen was born in 1616 and died in 1683. During his sixty-seven years he lived out a life full of spiritual experience, literary accomplishment and national influence so far beyond most of his peers that he continues to merit the accolade of "The greatest British theologian of all time". Andrew Thomson's biography traces his life and experience from his birth at Stadhampton, through his pastoral ministries in Fordham and Coggeshall, his years of public service as chaplain to Cromwell and vice-chancellor of Oxford University, until his last days as a preacher and pastor in London.
