Biography

William Makepeace Thackeray was born in India to English parents. At about the age of 5, Thackeray returned to England. Following various educational paths, he toyed with the idea of becoming a lawyer or a painter. His obvious forte’ was writing. He flourished in a career as a journalist. Thackeray authored several novels during his lifetime including Vanity Fair. Thackeray lived from 1811 to 1863.
