Biography

Saint Symeon the New Theologian lived during the latter half of the 10th century. Symeon practiced and promoted a deep, thoughtful prayer life. His life as a monk and a mystic gave voice to his passion for prayer. He taught the way to enlightenment (both spiritually and physically) was through prayer. Prayer was also key to the interpretation of scriptures. Eastern Orthodoxy would build on these foundational teachings four centuries later.
