« Joanan Joanna Joash »

Joanna

(grace or gift of God) (in Revised Version spelled Joanan).

  • Son of Rhesa, according to the text of (Luke 3:27) and one of the ancestors of Christ; but according to the view explained in a previous article, son of Zerubbabel, and the same as Hananiah in (1 Chronicles 3:19)
  • The name of a woman, occurring twice in (Luke 8:3; 24:10) but evidently denoting the same person, (A.D. 28-30.) In the first passage she is expressly stated to have been “wife of Chuza, steward of Herod,” that is, Antipas, tetrarch of Galilee.
