Biography

German born Reinhold Seeberg studied at Erlangen. He was a professor at both the Erlangen and Frederich William Universities. As a Lutheran theologian Seeberg wrote several books and articles with an emphasis on church history and church leaders. He wrote a textbook on the history of church doctrines. That work spanned five volumes. Seeberg tried to capture and explain the social nature of the church. He could be described as a traditionalist as well as a staunch nationalist. Seeberg was born in 1859 and died at the age of 76 in 1935. Besides the body of his written work, Seeberg’s legacy carried on by his students which included Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Seeberg’s son, Erich, a brilliant theologian also followed in his father’s footsteps and became a professor.
