Biography

As a mystic and a theologian, Richard of Saint Victor was an impactful voice in the 12th-centuryth century church. Besides his priestly duties, Richard was a prolific writer. More than thirty works have been attributed to Richard’s pen. One of his greatest mystic writings is The Book of the Twelve Patriarchs (aka Benjamin Minor) which was written to help prepare one for deeper contemplation. A follow-up to that book was The Mystical Ark. A commentary on Ezekiel and a handbook for biblical education are also Richard’s works. History hides when Richard was born but reveals that he was born in Scotland. Richard passed away in 1173.
