Cross, Ada Cambridge, the daughter of Henry
Cambridge, was born at Norfolk, England,
November 21, 1844. In 1870 she
married Rev. George Frederick Cross, a
clergyman of the Church of England. The
same year she removed with her husband to
Australia, where she has since resided. She
published Hymns on the Holy Communion,
1866, and Hymns on the Litany, 1865. A
few of her hymns have become popular.
Her hymns, says Dr. Julian, "are characterized
by great sweetness and purity of
rhythm, combined with naturalness and simplicity."
