Borthwick, Jane, was born in Edinburgh
April 9, 1813. In connection with her sister,
Mrs. Sarah Findlater,
wife of Rev. Eric J. Findlater, she translated Hymns from the
Land of Luther, 1854. Miss Borthwick not
only translated many German hymns, but
wrote a number of original poems. Many
of them were collected and published under
the title of Thoughts for Thoughtful Hours,
1857. She died September 7, 1897.
