Biography

Petrus van Mastricht was born in Cologne, Germany, in 1630. He earned a Masters of Art and Doctor of Theology degrees from the University of Duisburg. In addition to being a pastor, he also was a professor of Hebrew and theology. In the Amsterdam Classis, Mastricht was an elder and preached when needed. His views were more ecumenical than most. He taught a practical theology while opposing the tenants of Cartesianism. Falling ill, Mastricht used his home as his classroom for the last six years of his life. He died in 1706.
