Hippolytus was born in Rome around the year 170. So significant was he in the early church that he has been venerated by the Catholic church, Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodoxy, and the Anglican Communion. He wrote Biblical commentaries and other works regarding the early church, chonography, and ecclesiastical law as a Christian theologian. As far as other details of his life and activities, there are many legends and theories. Even some writings attributed to Hippolytus come into question as to their actual authorship. Be that as it may, Hippolytus remains one of the key figures of the early church. His death occurred around the year 235.
