The English version by J. Kelly, 1867, p. 259, is throughout more moderate in tone and does not reflect the utter self-abnegation of Gerhardt.154154This is almost the only poem in which Gerhardt has not employed his characteristic alliteration or assonance, or introduced "Friede" or "Freude" words.
