Biography

Edward Herbert of England would also be known as Baron Herbert of Castle Island. Born in 1583, Herbert would undertake many other roles besides nobility. He was a soldier, a deist, an author, a historian, a poet, a philosopher, and a diplomat. Herbert’s quest for the “truth” led him to write De Veritate (The Truth) and De Causis Errorum (On the Causes of Errors). Herbert also wrote a history of Henry VIII. Herbert died in 1648 but part of his legacy is his autobiography which describes the first 41 years of his life.
