This new Dover edition, first published in 1961, is an unabridged republication of the English translation of the third German edition that appeared circa 1900. This Dover edition is an unaltered re-publication except that minor typographical errors in Volume VII have been corrected.

The original English edition appeared as seven separate volumes, whereas this Dover edition is published complete in four separate volumes.
