Note 061 Mamertinus praises the emperor (xi. [x.] I) for bestowing the offices of treasurer and praefect on a man of wisdom, firmness, integrity, etc., like himself. Yet Ammianus ranks him (xxi. l ) among the ministers of Julian, quorum merita norat et fidem.
