Eutropius, a respectable witness, uses a doubtful expression, "consensu militum" (x. 15 [7]). Gregory Nazianzen, whose ignorance might excuse his fanaticism, directly charges the apostate with presumption, madness, and impious rebellion, Ancient Greek Orat. iii. p. 67.
