Biography

Genesius was born in Italy. His career was in theater performing mostly comedic plays. Legend has it that he was performing a play mocking the sacrament of baptism when he suddenly became convicted of his sin and became a Christian. This was during the brutal reign of Diocletian who demanded that Genesius recant his faith. When he refused to recant, Diocletian had him beheaded. Bestowed sainthood, Genesius is the saint of magicians, lawyers, and actors among others. His legendary life’s story spans continents and cultures. There is Genesian Theater in Australia, The Fraternity of St. Genesius, and even a novella, Genesius, published in 2021 by Donna Davis based on this man who lived in the third century.
