Biography

William Benedict Fitch was born in England in 1563. He became a Capuchin monk in France. From there he went to Italy and studied theology. He was ordained and moved back to France. He quickly gained a reputation as a reformer, particularly in ecclesiastical reform. Upon his return to England, he was jailed for two years. But it was not time wasted. He used the time to write. In 1609 two of his major works, The Rule of Perfection and The Christian Knight, were published. A year later, in 1610, he would die while in Paris. Fitch is remembered for leading a holy life and encouraging others to do the same.
