Biography

Juan de Valdes was born in Spain around 1490. In 1528 Juan published a critical view of the Roman Church. Since the Spanish Inquisition was in full swing, Juan moved to Rome, Italy, where his negative views were allowed. Naples became his new home and from there he wrote several works including Valdes’ Two Catechisms and Seven Doctrinal Letters. His passion was for each person to live out their faith by applying its truths to everyday living. Besides his published writings, Juan also translated parts of the Old and New Testaments into Spanish. Many people consider Juan a Spanish Reformer. He died in Naples in 1541.
