Biography

Little is known about Commodianus. There are two poems attributed to his authorship, and they are The Instructions and the Apologetical Poem. The writings can be dated to the 3rd century AD. The writings give us a glimpse into the life of Commodianus. It is clear he had lived a life of heathenism prior to being converted to Christianity through the reading of the Holy Scriptures. The consensus of most scholars locates Commodianus in Africa and that he was a contemporary of many other church fathers. His writings warn against the evils of heathenism and encourage a Christian life that reflects Christian faith in all of life's aspects.
