Question 98
But may not images be tolerated in the churches, as books to the laity?
No: for we must not pretend to be wiser than God, who will have his people taught, not by dump images,275275 Jer. 10:8; Hab. 2:18, 19. but by the lively preaching of his word.276276 Rom. 10:14, 15, 17; 2 Pet. 1:19; 2 Tim. 3:16, 17.
