James Montgomery, by all accounts the first English hymnologist as well as one of greatest hymnwriters, is not well represented on the web. This project, still in its opening stages, aims to redress that imbalance. The Preface above is the firstfruits of a scanning project which will include his complete hymns.
Montgomery wrote prefaces to his own Songs of Zion, as well as to an edition of the Olney Hymns. I have been unable to track down copies of these. Would anyone having access to a major seminary library be willing to copy the prefaces (only) to any of these works? I'd gladly pay costs.
Pointers to valuable relevant literary or historical material would also be appreciated.
